      This is not a song popularizing the mothers love as famously understood. This has a very very strong spiritual base to it. Here in this song, "amma" does not mean mother. It means the universe of duality, of maya. Edeyaala is the universe where the poet feels stuck in, and wants liberation (mukti). This song would be wonderfully understood if the reader is accquainted with the basics of vedanta.

      O mother I am a fish trapped in this universe created by you and I am suffering in it.

      Kadiyalolle nee karula balli, olavooduthiruva tayi, bidada bhuviya maye.
      - Why won't you break this umbilical cord ? Why do you shower so much love? Why won't you let me cut it and be free from all limitations? Why wont you free me from maya.

    I have been thinking why I feel this song is so different than others. My friends used to think it was for mother's love. But whenever I heard this song I have always thought there must be some inner meaning to it.. thanks for the explanation..
